Temple Emanu-El's Rabbi Magat and Israeli guide Muki Jankelowitz, will be exploring 3 different topics over a 3 week span. Each of the sessions is independent of the other ones. These sessions will all be held on Zoom.
The dates of the sessions are January 14th, 21st, and 28th.
The origins of the modern Middle East - This session would look at the collapse of the Ottoman Turkish Empire and the emergence of the States (and non-State actors) that have shaped the region since World War One.
Zionism - Why is there a Jewish State in the Middle East? How did the Zionist movement emerge and what are the claims of the Jewish people.
The War that began on Simchat Torah - This session would look at the parties to the war, Hamas, Hezbollah, The Yemini Hutis, Iran and how the war has developed. The session above looks at how the war has impacted Israel and Israelis on a more personal and day to day level. This session will look at the different fronts and focus more on strategic questions.
