Social Action Committee

The Emeth Social Action Committee participates in and organizes many programs such as distributing Tzedakah funds to various charities, food and clothing drives, distributing meals supplied by Jewish Family Services to the housebound congregants, feeding the needy and helping our B’nai Mitzvah students find a mitzvah project.Lord

One of our regular events is preparing a meal to feed the needy at the Lord’s Table in Gilroy. This spring we teamed up with the South Valley Islamic Community for our first joint social action project. We were able to serve between 75 and 150 needy adults and children in our community.

The Tzedakah funds that we collect at services are distributed on a bi-monthly basis. We are currently trying to expand the collection program to include the religious school classes. We are always looking for causes to support, so if you have a suggestion, please contact us. Recent Tzedakah funds recipients have been:

• Magen David Adom
• Israel Association for Ethiopian Jews
• Parent’s Circle (for bereaved parents)
• URJ Hurricane Fund

Each High Holiday season, we collect sacks of non-perishable food items and donations for Mazon. In the winter, we have a warm clothing drive. The donated clothing is distributed amongst the needy after we have served Christmas lunch at the Lord’s Table. When we move into our own building, we intend to expand these collection programs to year round activities and introduce similar opportunities for congregants to donate to worthy causes.

If you have any suggestions and/or wish to volunteer for any programs please please contact us.
