Our Leadership
Board of Directors:  The Board of Directors represents the lay leadership of the congregation, and is ultimately responsible for the congregation as an entity.  The Board is comprised of an Executive Board (the 5 officer positions) and a General Board whose members oversee all aspects of the congregation.

Staff:  Staff currently consists of our acting Rabbi, Debbie Israel; a Congregation Administrator; a group of cantors and cantorial soloists; a Religious and Hebrew school faculty; teenage Madrichim (teaching assistants) and a network of tutors.

Social Action Committee:  The Social Action Committee coordinates and encourages the communal service activities of the congregation within the community.  The committee enacts this mission with such activities as mentoring Bar/Bat Mitzvah students on their Mitzvah projects, organizing social action projects for the congregation, and distributing tzedakah (righteous giving) on behalf of the congregation.

Sisterhood:  Congregation Emeth’s Sisterhood brings together women of all ages from the congregation for social, spiritual, and educational events.  Programs have included leading Shabbat worship, learning to knit and presenting Bar and Bat Mitzvah students with tzedakah boxes.

Education Committee:  The congregation’s Education Committee is responsible for the Jewish growth and identity development programming at Emeth for members of all ages.  From youth and adult religious and Hebrew school programs to youth groups to scholar-in-residence weekends, the education committee ensures opportunities for Jewish development throughout the lifecycle.

Rachamim (Caring) Committee:  The Rachamim Committee (which literally means “lovingkindness”) cares for members’ needs at times of joy, tumult, or distress.  Regular activities include care packages to college students, postcards to kids at summer camp, coordinating shiva services for those in mourning, and visiting the infirm.

Open Arms Committee:  The Open Arms Committee ensures the successful welcoming, integration, and continuing satisfaction of members of the Congregation.  From production of our member information packet to providing “Just For Fun” social events throughout the year, the Open Arms committee gives members, new and longstanding, every opportunity to rejoice in the spirit of community at Emeth.

Generation Aleph:  Generation Aleph brings together young adults from throughout the congregation, primarily for social events which have included BBQs and Hanukah parties.

Ways & Means Committee:  The Ways & Means Committee is responsible for ensuring the resources necessary (both financial & volunteer) to maintain our programs and staff.

Ritual Committee:  The Ritual Committee is responsible for the religious activities of the congregation.  Shabbat and Holiday worship services, Kashrut guidelines, community Passover Seders and overseeing the Jewish portion of the cemetery in Gilroy are some of the important responsibilities of this committee.

Communications:  The congregation communicates primarily in three ways:  First, all congregational events are publicized through monthly flyers (either electronic or paper).  Second, the congregation maintains its website with up-to-date program and calendar information.  Third, the congregation publishes a printed newsletter three times per year (before High Holy Days, Hanukah, and Passover) providing information and updates about broader congregational issues, plans, and activities, as well as messages from the President and committees.
